Buko Magazine’s 2nd annual PG3 line-up has been selected and ready to rock your soul, soothe your blues and shred you into oblivion.
A full benefit for Oregon Music Hall Of Fame to help benefit dwindling music education programs in Oregon schools, each year selects from the absolute best NW guitar players in 3 different genres to play a cream-of-the-crop set of their own material, then duel it out on an all-star jam. One blues master, one rocker and one special guest star billed simply as the “Wild Card”. Backed by a stellar hand-picked backup band, this year will feature, Robbie Laws, Geoff Metts and Eddie Martinez.
Everyone knows Robbie’s steeped devotion to the blues, yet some may not know other genres he has aspired to. Back in the early 80’s he handily won a rock guitar contest, playing Yngwie Malmsteen songs note for note. He regularly teaches blues as well as many other styles to aspiring guitar students.
Eddie started as a session man in New York in the late 1970’s and ended up playing lead guitar w/ such names as, Mick Jagger, Robert Palmer, Run DMC, Blondie, David Lee Roth and many, many others. Delivering 100% prowess in just about any genre, whether it be progressive guitar runs or Jazz-fusion benders. 60’s rock classics, modern funk, R&B and Soul to all-out blues, Eddie has zero hesitation kicking out virtually any style he chooses to play.
Oh yeah, he is also a PDX resident! We found him playing regularly in the heart of the city and captured him. To say he will blow your top is the understatement of the year!
Geoff Metts is the frontman and guitarist for PDX’ most prominent and successful rock band, Western Aerial. Geoff teaches many a student every day at 5 Star Guitar and is a powerful riff-master who possesses an all around stage presence. His amiable nature and great personality connects the dots and brings the stage show together.
Last year’s PG3 debut featured Geoff, along with shred-Mistress, Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson/ Jeff Beck), bluesman Terry Robb. The incredibly gifted trio blew everyone away with their perspective sets, proving their prowess song after song, all the way through to their all-star finale.
This year’s line up of great guitarists are dedicated to their craft and have agreed to bond for the evening and help contribute the very best of their abilities while helping to raise money and awareness for k-12 music education programs. All 3 of these musicians play hundreds of shows every year and bring together their collective years of experience all in one place for a night that only happens once a year.
This is an all-ages show and will include a raffle for one lucky winner to take home a brand new electric guitar played and signed by all 3 stars. Card carrying CBA members get $1 off the ticket price.
Please come out and help support music education programs while taking home an evening you’ll never forget!
